Special Quests

Want to take a break from regular hunting or simply bored for something to do? We have compiled a list of Special Quests for you to complete!

King’s Gauntlet (Initiate+):

To unlock this area, you must catch the Master Burglar Mouse, trade the Crown Jewel, and purchase the King’s Gauntlet Floorplan with 50,000 gold.

Crown Jewel

Gilded Cheese

The Master Burglar, attracted to Gilded and SB+, can be found in the Town of Gnawnia and Bazaar. Obtain Gilded Cheese (with a higher attraction rate for the Master Burglar than SB+) from the loot of Burglar Mice (attracted to regular Brie or SB+).

Once you have entered the gauntlet, you will notice that it has 8 tiers. Each tier has a specific theme that will encompass mice of different power types. Below is a list of all the power types. It is suggested to have strong traps suitable for each tier in order to be successful at climbing to the top of the gauntlet.

Tier One-Puppets; Physical/Tactical

Tier Two-Thiefs; Physical

Tier Three-Melee; Tactical

Tier Four-Bard; Tactical

Tier Five-Magic; Shadow

Tier Six-Noble; Arcane

Tier Seven-Dust; Hydro

Tier Eight-The Eclipse; Forgotten

Primary Strategy- The best way to proceed with the gauntlet is to hoard a whole bunch of Tier 2 cheese potions before moving on. You really must have patience or you will find yourself climbing up and down the gauntlet, each time failing to receive enough potions for the next level (especially when it gets to looting Tier 8 potions). The minimum we suggest you go in with is 500 Tier 2 Cheese.

Okay on to each specific tier.

Note: If you have a strong Physical/Tactical/Hydro trap like the Sandstorm Monstrobot or the Ancient Box Trap, you can use it to brute force all the way up the Gauntlet and the hardest mouse will be the Fiend Mouse(Weak against Hydro).

Tier One-You can use any standard cheese here and the mice here are very weak, so using a high attraction trap like the Chrome Tacky Glue trap with the Wooden Base With Target will result in less fail to attracts while using lesser cheese like Marble and Swiss Cheese. The primary weakness for these mice here are physical and tactical. There is a chance for the mice here to drop Gauntlet Potion Tier 2. Also use Swiss instead of Marble to convert the potions, since Swiss gives off more Gauntlet Cheese Tier 2, thus saving you time.

Tier Two-Use the Gauntlet Cheese Tier 2 that you got from Tier One. These are extremely weak mice of the physical power type. The mice here have a chance to drop Gauntlet Tier 3 Potions. You can use Swiss Cheese to convert 1 potion into 5 pieces or 4pieces if you are using Marble Cheese.

Tier Three-Equip your Gauntlet Cheese Tier 3 with a Tactical Trap for best results. The mice here drop Gauntlet Tier 4 Potions. Using Brie to convert will result in 4 pieces and Swiss will yield 2 pieces.

Tier Four-Use Gauntlet Tier 3 cheese. The main weakness for the mice here is tactical. Using Brie to convert will result in 4 pieces and Swiss will yield 2 pieces.

Tier Five-The main weakness for these mice is Shadow Power type traps, but many other power types will suffice since shadow traps are generally low powered. Using Brie to convert through a Gauntlet Tier 6 Potion will result in 3 Gauntlet Tier 6 cheese.

Tier Six-The main weakness for the mice here is Arcane. Also, the mice here are profitable enough for you to use SB+ by converting 3SB+ into Gauntlet Cheese Tier 7. If you do not wish to Donate, buy them for 5,500 – 6,000 gold per piece on the marketplace.

Eclipse Mouse

Tier Seven-The weakness for the mice here is Hydro. I hope at this tier, you will get at least one potion, or else you will be knocked down and unable to further progress. Using SB+ to convert 1 SB+ into 1 Gauntlet Tier 8 potion is cheaper than converting with Gouda (takes 15,000 gold).

Ancient Box Trap

Tier Eight-If you have reached this stage from collecting Tier 8 Potions, then congratulations! You are on to catching the most rewarding mouse in the entire game…the Eclipse Mouse! Equip your Ancient Box Trap and a High Attraction/Fresh Base to ensure you don’t stale your precious Tier 8 Cheese. The Eclipse Mouse drops a whooping 300,000 gold and 379,000 gold.

With this you have completed the King’s Gauntlet! Do you think it was worth it?

Digby Dirt Dwellers (Masters+) [Special Thanks to Vinit Ranjan]:

The Digby Dirt Dwellers are a group of 11 mice found in the Town of Digby. Just know that catching these mice is completely unnecessary and the only real reason one would probably want these mice would be for collection purposes or getting a powerful base, the Monolith.

Limelight

Anyway, catching these mice requires a brand new type of cheese. The cheese is called Limelight Cheese. The recipe for Limelight is: 30 Curds and Whey + 3 Living Shards + 3 Radioactive Sludge = 3 Limelight Cheese.  Living Shards are sold in the General Store of Town of Digby. Radioactive Sludge can be quite boring to get, but it is necessary to make Limelight.

The trap setup is the next decision that one must make. There are four power types that are effective against the Dirt Dwellers: Physical, Shadow, Tactical, and Arcane. So, one should use the highest power/luck combination that they have. Now, the eleven mice are the: Nugget, Core Sample, Rock Muncher, Industrious Digger, Stone Cutter, Demolitions, Miner, Lambent Crystal, Itty-Bitty Burroughs, Subterranean, and Big Bad Burroughs.

Big Bad Burroughs

Most of these mice should not be a problem for a high enough power/luck combination, but there are two in particular that will most likely give people trouble. These are the Nugget and the Big Bad Burroughs.

Now, the Nugget Mouse is actually the easiest mouse to catch out of all eleven, but the problem is that it is exceedingly rare. The chance to attract a Nugget is about as much to attract a Black Widow, which is less than .1% of the time. At least 100-200 pieces of Limelight is probably the bare minimum if one wants to catch a Nugget Mouse.

Now, on the opposite end of the scale, there is the Big Bad Burroughs Mouse This mouse is also unfortunately hard to attract AND hard to catch at the same time. Most traps that people attempt to use to catch the BBB have about a 10% catch rate, which obviously is not a high catch rate at all. So, if you want the BBB, there is really nothing you can do except for being patient and hoping the luck is in your favor.

Once you DO catch it, you can take pride in knowing you caught one of the hardest mice in the game. There are also the loot drops, and the thing most people go after is the Monolith Base. This is a high power base but it is inferior to many other bases that hunters get later on, such the Molten Shrapnel Base or Spellbook Base.

Once you catch these 11 mice, you are officially done with the Digby Dirt Dwellers!

Dojo Sensei (Grandmaster+):

The Dojo Sensei Mouse (SOJO) is the mouse with the lowest catch rate in all of Furoma, hence the most difficult to catch.

You will need a strong Tactical Trap and some Onyx Gorgonzola cheese. The cheese can be obtained in two ways.

One way is crafting it and the other way is to poke Unstable Curds.

Onyx Gorgonzola

The recipe for 3 pieces of Onyx Gorgonzola is: 60 Curds & Whey + 6 Ionized Salt + 1 Onyx Stone

The recipe for 1 Unstable Curd is: 1 Curds & Whey + 1 Ionized Salt + 1 Onyx Stone

Under the “Special” heading in the “Inventory” heading, there is an option to “Poke” Unstable Curds. This causes the Unstable Curd to transform to a type of cheese. The chance that it will become 8-12 pieces of Onyx Gorgonzola is approximately 28.2%. There is an 18.7% chance that it will become any of the other cheeses used in Furoma. Once you have the cheese, its time to pick your trap.

Dojo Sensei

Zugzwang's First Move

Obviously, if you need a powerful Tactical trap, there are some choices you can rule out. You may be tempted to go for the Sojo with a trap like Ambush, although I personally do not advise it. I recommend waiting for a stronger Tactical trap such as Horrific Venus Mouse Trap or Zugzwang’s First Move. The catch rate for these traps is about 10-11% or higher depending on your base, but as you can see that’s obviously not very high.

If you manage a successful catch, you may perhaps notice interesting loot drops.

The Loot: The Sojo can drop up to 3 Divine Orbs, which can be sold on the Marketplace for a little gold or used for crafting, a satchel of gold with 5,000 or 10,000 each, Onyx Stones, a Master’s Seal, and blueprints for the Onyx Mallet. The Onyx Mallet is a decent physical trap, but not as good as traps like the Rhinobot.

That’s about it for catching a Sojo. Now, one thing you have to remember is that the Sphnyx Wrath, the best Tactical trap in the game, has a little less than a 20% chance to catch a Sojo. That shows that it is not easy for anybody. Also, be prepared to see a LOT of red boxes with unusually high point losses in them (usually around 11,000 or so!).

Balack’s Cove (Knight+):

Balack.

You’ve been through the JOD at this point, and obviously know how dreadful it is. Unfortunately, if you want to catch Balack, you’re going to have to go back to catch two certain breeds called Swarm of Pygmy mice and Pygmy Wrangler. They should drop something called a Vanilla Bean. This is an essential ingredient that will be used to craft a cheese called Vanilla stilton which attracts other mice in Balack’s Cove.

So head over to JOD and arm Gouda to stock up a bunch of vanilla bean.  Hunt Pygmy mice with your best shadow trap until you collect around 400-500. (Yes, it will take a while to do that)

Now, combine with the following materials to craft around 400-500 pieces of vanilla stilton (depends on your patience level).

Formula: Vanilla Stilton (15 pieces)
Description Qty Cost (Each)
Coconut Milk 15 800 / Loot
Curds and Whey 15 12
Salt 15 6
Vanilla Bean 15 Loot
Total 270 – 12,270

Vanilla Stilton is the cheese that you will use in Balack’s Cove. Note that this area is different from others and operates on a time cycle like the Forbidden Grove/Acolyte Realm. There is a breed of mice called the “Riptide mouse” that will wash you out of the cove every 16 hours. Mhwiki’s description of this is: “Upon capturing a Riptide mouse, the hunter will be washed out to the Jungle of Dread. The hunter may immediately reenter the Balack’s Cove until the next capture of a Riptide. The Cove has an 18 hour 40 minute tide cycle; for 16 hours, the tide is low, and no Riptide mice are present. Then for 1 hour, the tide rises to medium tide and Riptide mice start to replace Tidal Fisher mice. Then the tide rises to high tide and for 40 minutes, only Riptide can be encountered. Finally, the tide recedes to medium tide for another 1 hour before starting at low tide again to complete the cycle.”

Generally, it’s a good idea to keep track of time by using the mousehunt timer (link) so you won’t be washed out into the JOD with a setup that’s good with whine (useless).

Now that you have this in mind, you should begin hunting with your strongest Arcane Trap (From best to worst: Arcane Blast, Acronym, Nutcracker Nuisance) and start catching the Three Lichs – Nerg, Derr and Elub. They will each drop a Raisins of Wrath, Bottle of Rage, and Pinch of Annoyance, respectively. These will be used later to craft Vengeful Vanilla Stilton that attracts Balack the Banished.

Vengeful Vanilla Stilton

Once you have collected all the loot that you can from the three lichs, craft Vengeful Vanilla Stilton from what you have.

Formula: Vengeful Vanilla Stilton (1 piece)
Description Qty Cost (Each)
Bottled-Up Rage 1 Loot
Coconut Milk 1 800 / Loot
Curds and Whey 1 12
Ionized Salt 1 450 / Loot
Pinch of Annoyance 1 Loot
Raisins of Wrath 1 Loot
Vanilla Bean 1 Loot
Total 12 – 1,262

And it is STRONGLY recommended that you use magic essence to create three times the amount of cheese

Formula: Vengeful Vanilla Stilton (3 pieces)
Description Qty Cost (Each)
Bottled-Up Rage 1 Loot
Coconut Milk 1 800 / Loot
Curds and Whey 1 12
Ionized Salt 1 450 / Loot
Pinch of Annoyance 1 Loot
Raisins of Wrath 1 Loot
Vanilla Bean 1 Loot
Magic Essence 3 Crafting
Total 12 – 1,262

Once you have crafted the amount possible, arm your Vengeful Vanilla Stilton with the Ancient Box Trap and luckiest base. Cross your fingers and hope you catch the long forgotten Balack the Banished.

Balack the Banished

Molten Shrapnel Base (Knight+):

The Molten Shrapnel Base, along with being one of the most effective and powerful bases in the game, is tedious to craft. To craft the Molten Shrapnel Base, you need to have caught a Dragon Mouse. The Dragon mouse drops a Dragon Ember that is needed for the Molten Shrapnel Base (MSB).

That was the easy part. The tough part of acquiring the MSB is collecting 200 Scrap Metal. That sounds like a lot, but with a few days of hunting, you will collect it quickly. To do this, travel to the Catacombs and equip Ancient Cheese. After catching many many Catacombs mice, you should have at least 720,000 gold. Use that gold to buy 12 Platinum Bars from the Training Grounds General Store.

The recipe for the MSB is:

Molten Shrapnel Base

1 Dragon Ember + 200 Scrap Metal + 12 Platinum Bars = Molten Shrapnel Base.

Congratz! You now have one of the best bases in the game!

Crystal Library (Lord/Lady+):

This area was actually a new edition into Mousehunt.

How to unlock the area:

Crystal Library Card

In the Zugzwang Tower, the Knight, Bishop,Rook, or Queen on both sides may have dropped something called a Crystal Library Card. This allows you to travel to the Crystal Library and experience a new type of gameplay: Library Assignments.

The goal in this area is to catch Zurreal the Eternal and craft the Reapers Perch-The strongest shadow trap in the game. Basically before you can catch Zurreal the Eternal, you will need 900 Library Points obtained from doing Library Assignments.

For most of the mice here, use your strongest tactical or physical trap and Gouda. If you want to catch the Tome Sprite Mouse, you’ll need to use SB+, which boosts the attraction of the Aether M0use by quite a margin.

Another thing to note is that you may smash your assignment using the Hunter’s Hammer for what ever purpose (to discontinue your assignment for something else), but you’ll have to wait 1 hour after you received the assignment to get another assignment.

These Library Assignments earn you Library Points and takes you through many regions of Mousehunt. When you first enter the library, you can only do the Catalog Library Mice task. This task basically tells you to catch one 1 the following mice:

  •  Bookborn Mouse
  •  Effervescent Mouse
  •  Explorator Mouse
  •  Flutterby Mouse
  •  Infiltrator Mouse
  •  Pocketwatch Mouse
  •  Walker Mouse

and one of either Steam Grip or Scribe Mouse.

The rewards for finishing this task are:

  • 20 Library Points
  • 0-1 Yellow Tome of Wisdom (45,000 points)

    Yellow Tome of Wisdom

  • 15-25 Wealth Charms
  • 0-1 Bubbles Bookends

Then you unlock a new assignment: Library Research

This one is different because you can actually receive 2 assignment.

The 1st assignment is the Library Mice Research. In this assignment you have to

  • 15-25 Wealth Charms
  • 0-1 Bubbles Bookends

Finishing this assignment unlocks the Zugzwang Research.

In the Zugzwang Research there’s 2 types of research you may receive. The first one is the Seasonal Garden Research.

      • Catch 1 Whirleygig Mice using a Tactical trap
      • Catch 4 Harvest Harrier Mice
      • Catch 4 Pumpkin Head Mice using a Shadow trap

The rewards are:

  • 80 Library Points
  • 0-1 Blue Tome of Wisdom (130,000 points)
  • 6-8 Wealth Charms
  • 40-60 Amplifier Charms

The other assignment you may unlock is the Mystic/Technic King Research. The tasks here have a specific order to be done in. To see what the next task is, log onto Mousehunt and click here and find obj_type and see whats it says next to it.

You have to complete these tasks:

  1. One of the following
    1. Catch 10 Mice in the Seasonal Garden using a Tactical trap
    2. Catch 30 Mice in the Seasonal Garden
  2. One of the following
    1. Catch 1 Mouse in the Seasonal Garden using Zugzwang’s First Move
    2. Catch 10 Mice in the Seasonal Garden using the Bamboozler Base
    3. Catch 10 Mice in the Seasonal Garden using Zugzwang’s Last Move
  3. One of the following
    1. Catch 8 Mystic/Technic Pawns
    2. Catch 8 Mystic/Technic Pawns using Wooden Base with Target
  4. One of the following
    1. Catch 2 Mystic/Technic Knight Mice
    2. Catch 2 Mystic/Technic Bishop Mice
  5. Catch 1 Mystic/Technic King Mouse

This assignment may require the use of Zugzwang’s Last Move, which you have smashed to craft the Zugzwang’s First Move. It is a waste to buy another one (unless you have the gold), so you should smash the assignment for later. Also the Zugzwang Research is a good to repeat since it goes in line with the Seasonal Garden and Zugzwang’s Tower. This way, you do not have to go elsewhere to do the assignment.

The rewards for this assignment are:

  • 80 Library Points
  • 0-1 Blue Tome of Wisdom (130,000 points)
  • 6-8 Wealth Charms
  • 10-20 Amplifier Charms
  • 2 Rook Crumble Charms
  • 4-6 Spellbook Charms
  • 1 Mystic Curd or 1 Technic Cheese Mould

If you have done all of the assignments above, you will unlock Furoma Research. In truth though, this assignment is not worth doing because of the low points the mice give and the small reward (10 Library Points) over Zugzwang  Research. Although for people who want to do a Furoma Cycle (See here), this research is something extra they can do.

You can receive three different types of assignments for Furoma Research.

The first one is called the Furoma Research Assignment, where you will have to do:

  • One of the following
    • Catch 3 Mice in the Training Grounds using Zugzwang’s Last Move
    • Catch 15 Archer Mice in the Training Grounds
    • Catch 40 Mice in the Training Grounds using Bamboozler Base
    • Catch 50 Mice using a Tactical trap

    • Catch 1 Students of the Cheese Belt Mouse using Zugzwang’s Last Move
  • One of the following
    • Catch 6 Students of the Cheese Fang Mice
    • Catch 1 Students of the Cheese Fang Mice using Zugzwang’s Last Move
  • One of the following
    • Catch 6 Students of the Cheese Claw Mouse
    • Catch 1 Students of the Cheese Claw Mice using Zugzwang’s Last Move

  • Catch 1 Masters of the Cheese Claw Mouse
  • One of the following
    • Catch 1 Master of the Dojo Mouse
    • Catch 1 Master of the Dojo Mouse using Ambush, unfortunately Ninja Ambush Trap cannot be used to complete this task
    • Catch 1 Master of the Dojo Mouse using Zugzwang’s First Move

This assignment requires Zugzwang’s Last Move (Extra gold cost if you don’t have it).

The rewards are:

  • 90 Library Points
  • 0-1 Purple Tome of Wisdom (180,000 points)
  • 8-12 Wealth Charms
  • 3 Student Tokens (Belt/Fang/Claw)
  • 1 Master Shard (Belt/Fang/Claw)
  • 2-3 Rumble Cheese OR 1 Onyx Stone

The final possible assignment is the Dojo Sensei Research Assignment, where you will have to do

  • One of the following
    • Catch 2 Students of the Cheese Belt Mouse using Onyx Mallet
    • Catch 2 Students of the Cheese Fang Mouse using Onyx Mallet
    • Catch 2 Students of the Cheese Claw Mouse using Onyx Mallet
  • Catch 8 Masters of the Cheese Belt Mouse
  • Catch 8 Masters of the Cheese Fang Mouse
  • Catch 8 Masters of the Cheese Claw Mouse
  • One of the following
    • Catch 2 Masters of the Dojo Mouse
    • Catch 2 Masters of the Dojo Mouse using Ambush, unfortunately Ninja Ambush Trap cannot be used to complete this task
    • Catch 2 Masters of the Dojo Mouse using Zugzwang’s First Move
  • Catch 1 Dojo Sensei

Do note that you need the Onyx Mallet, and many people do not have it.

The rewards are:

  • 90 Library Points
  • 0-1 Purple Tome of Wisdom (180,000 points)
  • 8-12 Wealth Charms
  • 3 Student Tokens (Belt/Fang/Claw)
  • 2 Master Shards (Belt/Fang/Claw)
  • 2-3 Rumble Cheese OR 1 Onyx Stone

If you skipped the Furoma Assignment, you have to do any assignment once to unlock the next assignment, the Advanced Zugzwang Research.

There are two different assignments for the Advanced Zugzwang Research. The first one is the Mystic/Technic Amplifier Research, and in this assignment you will have to do these tasks in order.

The tasks are:

  1. One of the following
    1. Catch 30 Mice in the Seasonal Garden using a Tactical trap
    2. Catch 30 Mice in the Seasonal Garden using Zugzwang’s First Move
  2. Catch 8 Mystic/Technic Pawns using Mystic/Technic Pawn Pincher
  3. One of the following
    1. Catch 1 Mystic/Technic Queen using Checkmate Cheese
    2. Catch 1 Mystic/Technic King using Checkmate Cheese
  4. Catch 1 Chess Master

Note that if your second assignment is Technic, then the rest of the assignments are all Technic and vice versa. Also you should  buy some Uncharged Scholar Charms from the Crystal Library and equip them while catching Chess Master(which will turn them into Scholar Charms)because Scholar Charms are needed to catch Zurreal the Eternal.

The rewards are:

  • 150 Library Points
  • 0-1 Purple Tome of Wisdom (180,000 points)
  • 6-8 Wealth Charms
  • 20-25 Amplifier Charms
  • 2 Rook Crumble Charms
  • 20-40 Spellbook Charms
  • 1-2 Mystic Curd OR 1-2 Technic Cheese Mould OR 1-2 Checkmate cheese

The second possible assignment you can get is the Advanced Tower Amplifier Research, and this is considerably harder than the Mystic/Technic Assignment. In this assignment you have to do

  • One of the following
    • Catch 30 Mice in the Seasonal Garden using Spellbook Base
    • Catch 30 Mice in the Seasonal Garden using Zugzwang’s First Move
  • One of the following
    • Catch 1 Mystic King Mouse using Checkmate Cheese
    • Catch 1 Mystic King Mouse using Blackstone Pass Trap and Checkmate Cheese
  • One of the following
    • Catch 1 Technic King Mouse using Checkmate Cheese
    • Catch 1 Technic King Mouse using Obvious Ambush Trap and Checkmate Cheese
  • Catch 1 Chess Master

The rewards are:

  • 150 Library Points
  • 0-1 Purple Tome of Wisdom (180,000 points)
  • 6-8 Wealth Charms
  • 20-25 Amplifier Charms
  • 4 Rook Crumble Charms
  • 40-60 Spellbook Charms
  • 2 Mystic Curd OR 2 Technic Cheese Mould OR 2-3 Checkmate cheese

The next assignment takes 900 library points and is the final assignment at the moment. I recommend you to repeat the Advanced Zugzwang Research until you have that many points. The final assignment is called the Zurreal trap assignment. This assignment requires you to loot all the trap parts to craft the Zurreal’s Folly- The only trap that can catch Zurreal the Eternal. Now, let’s see what we have to do for this assignment.

Zurreal the Eternal

Zurreal's Folly

Now you have to craft Zurreal’s Folly in order to catch Zurreal the Eternal. Just go to the Crystal Library and equip Zurreal’s Folly with your strongest base and the Scholar Charm. This trap will not guarantee a 100% catch rate, but don’t panic because Scholar Charms are only consumed upon catching a Zurreal mouse..

Zurreal the Eternal will drop the Reaper’s Perch Blueprints. If you want the strongest shadow trap in the game, just follow this formula:

1 Droid Parts+ 1 Reaper’s Perch Blueprints+ 6 Metamorphic Rock+6 Onyx Stones+6 Runes= Reaper’s Perch

Congratulations, you have finished the assignments for the Crystal Library!

Credit goes to Mousehunt Wiki for the crafting data numbers, list of assignments, and the tasks involved.
